Last week, Numana staff and Board members visited Mission of Hope in Haiti and spent time in several orphanages that receive Numana food. The picture above is from one of the locations we visited.
This orphanage was different than the others we had visited. They were not receiving food from our partners, Mission of Hope Haiti, where 90,000 children are being fed a nutritious meal every day. This group of children is on the waiting list. They are waiting for food, they are waiting for hope. They smile and have fun while playing hop-scotch. The older children care for and love the babies; one would believe that there is so much joy and happiness in this place, but they don’t have food. Their small bodies show the truth. They are not developing according to their age and they lack the energy needed to thrive in school.
The question that was asked by Mr. Lookens Pickering, who oversees the feeding program at Mission of Hope, keeps running over and over in my mind. “How can you help us feed the children on our waiting list?” What I have realized since coming home, is that the answer to that question is YOU.
Please consider providing meals for these children. By making a financial gift or planning a packing event, we can tell Mr. Lookens that he can take more children off of that waiting list. We need to pack about 1 million meals this fall. How can we do that? Again, the answer is YOU.
Mobilize your church, school, or business to pack meals. A group of people and 30 cents per meal can make such a difference!
