Staff Blog: The World’s Babies are Our Babies – By Brandi Starr

Brandi Starr is our Accountant at Numana. She’s only been on staff a few months, but her heart showed up long before she took the position. You’ll see why she fits so well with us.
My heart has been officially broken. Three weeks ago I looked at HubStarr and told him how unfair it was that some people could have a whole truckload of children. That people could have children they didn’t want. That people could have children they mistreat. I shouted at him. I yelled at him that it wasn’t fair. He looked at me and told me there were also women in the world who had children they couldn’t feed, or clothe, or shelter. He told me they probably thought life was equally unfair due to their excess of babies they love but can’t adequately care for. My response at the time was, “That’s exactly my point!”
Yesterday I read a small post which told a heartbreaking story of a man having to make a horrible choice between the lives of his children. I broke down instantly when reading those short sentences. I remembered HubStarr’s words to me and mourned for those who couldn’t provide for their own families. My heart broke more for those people than it had been for my own childless life. I thought about some of the organizations we hold dear to our hearts. I thought of the children they help. The children they rescue. The children they feed. The children they love.
I knew in that moment that whatever prayers or financial support we are giving towards those organizations were our contribution to caring for the children of the world. Just as God gave us the means to care for kids, He gave other people babies with no means to care for them. Then, He proceeded to show us how to partner in raising little ones all over the world with the means He gives us to do so. I’d known His plan was perfect, I just hadn’t known how.
We may never hold those kids. We may never name them. We may never know how they will grow up and live beautiful lives. But, we can know that we’re giving what we’re equipped to give. And, somehow, that’s suddenly okay with me.
If you’re interested in making a difference to a child somewhere, here are some of our favorite organizations going above and beyond to love and feed the babies of the world:
Father’s House Ghana: A home for young boys rescued out of slavery
Food for the Hungry: A great organization making it easy to support poverty-stricken children and their families
Numana: An organization devoted to helping people save the starving. See “Rick’s Journal” for the story I mentioned above.
The opinions expressed in this post are only that of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Numana.
