Numana Food Packaging Event for Haiti
Tweet
“Gran Gou” is “I’m hungry” in Haitian Creole. In any language, starvation is just wrong.
El Dorado, Kansas, December 21, 2009 – Numana, Inc. will host its debut food packaging event at the El Dorado Civic Center, 201 E. Central, on December 29th and 30th from 8am to 8pm. Volunteers will package a goal of 285,120 meals (one 40’ shipping container) to be delivered by Numana Inc. via partnership with The Salvation Army to school children in Haiti. Participants are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to re-stock local food banks depleted during the holiday season.
Numana, Inc. facilitates unique high-energy Food Packaging Events where hundreds of volunteers serve two-hour shifts in an assembly-line fashion packaging simple, nutritious meals. These meals, consisting of rice, soy protein, freeze-dried vegetables, and 21 vitamins and minerals, are measured into bags, sealed, boxed and shipped to the Salvation Army World Service Office for distribution to schools in Haiti. Feeding children through the school system encourages education of the next generation and gives them the knowledge they need to build sustaining capacities within their own communities. Receiving nutritious meals at school promotes future self-sufficiency for Haitian children.
“We work with the poorest of poor in more than 110 countries, said W. Bramwell Bailey, Program Director of the Salvation Army World Service Office. “Numana’s support provides food to make it through the day, and more than that, to have hope for a better future.”
